ACOLA Parliamentary Seminar

This seminar is part of a collaboration between the Parliamentary Library and ACOLA to bring Australia’s leading minds from Australia’s Learned Academies and other experts to important topics of interest to Parliament.

Achieving Australia’s net-zero target will be challenging, and electrification and green energy alone will not achieve our ambition. Especially for many hard-to-abate industries, we will require a combination of carbon emission abatement and management. This session, led by two of Australia’s leading experts on carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), will outline the breadth of various current and envisaged carbon capture technologies and processes. In particular, the discussion will explore their relative readiness, scale, success, feasibility, and learnings from domestic and international projects to inform implementation in Australia.

This session was a conversation led by Professor Peter Cook CBE FTSE and Professor Sandra Kintesh FTSE.

The seminar was held on 17 August 2022 and recorded by the Parliamentary Library.
